Serenity

When assailed by ignorance and intolerance,
when besieged by arrogance and treachery,
when overwhelmed by ingratitude and persiflage,
I retreat to a remote haven,
embraced by a gentle calm,
soothed by soft caresses,
solaced by loving refreshment,
serenaded by angelic melodies,
and restored by kind support,
where I can bemoan my violated sensitivity,
scream my outrage at injustice,
yell dire imprecations,
and wail that eternal conundrum:
Why me?!

May my Higher-Power grant me
the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to hide the bodies
of all those I had to kill,
because they really pissed me off!
