What the Soldier Did
The right of controversial speech was not granted by
commentators.
A free and open press wasn't guaranteed by writers and
editors.
The right to protest wasn't instituted by demonstrators and
activists.
The freedom to assemble wasn't warranted by the police.
The right of self-protection wasn't bestowed by vigilantes.
Public education wasn't enabled by teachers and professors.
The right to vote wasn't conferred by politicians.
The due-process of jurisprudence wasn't rendered by lawyers and
judges.
Private property and monetary possession wasn't shielded by
bankers.
Employment opportunities weren't guarded by employers and
entrepreneurs.
The freedom to worship wasn't authorized by clerics.
The state of peace, permitting the pursuit of happiness, wasn't
obtained by pacifists.
All of the privileges that Americans freely enjoy
were provided by the sacrifices of our citizen soldiers!
