The Soldier's Psalm
The Soldier's Psalm
Psalm 91 [King James version (KJV) Bible (1611)]
- He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall
abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
- I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my
God; in him will I trust.
- Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
and from the noisome pestilence.
- He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings
shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
- Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for
the arrow that flieth by day;
- Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the
destruction that wasteth at noonday.
- A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy
right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
- Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of
the wicked.
- Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even
the most High, thy habitation;
- There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague
come nigh thy dwelling.
- For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee
in all thy ways.
- They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy
foot against a stone.
- Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and
the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
- Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I
deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my
name.
- He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with
him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
- With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my
salvation.
The Soldier's Psalm
Psalm 91 [New Living Translation (NLT) Bible (1996)]
- Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find
rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
- This I declare of the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place
of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him.
- For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from
the fatal plague.
- He will shield you with his wings. He will shelter you with
his feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and
protection.
- Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor fear the
dangers of the day,
- nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness, nor the
disaster that strikes at midday.
- Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are
dying around you, these evils will not touch you.
- But you will see it with your eyes; you will see how the
wicked are punished.
- If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High
your shelter,
- no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your
dwelling.
- For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go.
- They will hold you with their hands to keep you from
striking your foot on a stone.
- You will trample down lions and poisonous snakes; you will
crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
- The LORD says, "I will rescue those who love me. I will
protect those who trust in my name.
- When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in
trouble. I will rescue them and honor them.
- I will satisfy them with a long life and give them my
salvation.
