It's Our Time
by Peter V. Boyd (1978, 2009)
You saw me once – You said you knew
This passing face – in this passing crowd
It meant something – that filled your heart
With a burning rage – You swore one day
you'd see me die
You question me – all through the night
Are you a red? – Are you a white?
Wearing the Green? – Or an Orangeman?
Is your cap blue? – Or is it gray?
'til I fade away
You line us up – Against the wall
You scream contempt – and watch us die
The young – The old
The boys – The girls
All equally so we can share
your perfect world
Bleached in deserts – Froze on ice
Torn by bombs – Left to starve
Called devils, rebels, dirt or dogs
Shouting slogans – Clinging tight
For one more fight
Two hundred years ago you cry
My ancestors – sent yours to die
You burn my house – and throw me in
I swear that – for a thousand years
you'll be repaid
And we're reborn – and taught the tale
We will survive – and you will fail
We'll drag you down and make you crawl
For you are evil. We are good
It's our time
A hundred years ago I say
Your ancestors – swept mine away
but it's my time – We're here to stay
We've won the day – We'll make you crawl
It's our time!
Gods of Mercy – Gods of Life
You lure me into war and strife
I do my best to do your will
I say my prayers
Load up our weapons
Invade and kill
Gods of the Sun, the Moon and Earth
Does human life have any worth?
The newest armies take the lands
For gold or oil
under rocks or sand
in your Holy Plan
I see the blood upon my hands
Mud on my shoes from foreign lands
I wash in springs, in rain and seas
I pray for peace
in your eternal hands
but never see
I'm reborn and taught the tales
How we'll survive and they will fail
I'll drag them down and make them crawl
They all are evil, I am Blessed
It's our time!
